Introduction

A bit about me: Hi, I'm Alex.  I'm a physiotherapy student from Wales.  I'm a keen cyclist (well, before I was struggling with hip pain) and have an interest in the management of chronic pain.  After completing BSc physiotherapy, I'm hoping to study Pain Management (MSc).

I’m in a lot of pain.  I have been for 19 months.  I have a hip injury which has yet to be addressed and I’ve recently undergone a femoral de-rotation osteotomy to rectify a bony growth defect.  The surgery involved breaking my femur, twisting it and securing it by drilling through the middle of the bone and screwing a rod through it.

Over the past 19 months I have learnt a lot about chronic pain and it’s (considerable) difficulties.  The most important thing I’ve learnt is: There’s so much more to pain than just pain!  (What I mean by this will become clear in future posts.)

Through this blog I will share my personal experiences of dealing with chronic pain.  Also, I hope to share with you tips and tricks for managing chronic pain.

I’m not a medical professional and any information I provide is based on my own opinion and experience.  You should ask your doctor if you are thinking of trying different pain management methods or if you have any medical concerns.
